Although there are many excellent books on landslide characterization and mitigation, such as the landmark Transportation Research Board Special Report 247, there are few books that focus on the broader issue of landslide hazard and risk assessment. To this end, editors Thomas Glade, Malcolm Anderson, and Michael J. Crozier have assembled an excellent book that brings an international perspective on modeling, evaluating, and managing risk from landslides.

In contrast to many landslide books authored solely by geologists and engineers, this new book incorporates authors from diverse fields such as economics, land-use planning, and cultural anthropology.
