Selection of crushed rock quarries for the construction of the Anatolian Motorway

Suleyman Dalgic

Istanbul University, Engineering Faculty, Istanbul, Turkey

In the Asarsuyu Valley section of the Anatolian Motorway, there is a need for approximately 12 million m 3 of crushed rock for fill, granular base, cemented base, filter rock asphaltic cement, and portland cement concrete. To meet this need, five potential quarry areas were studied with respect to their mineralogical and geotechnical properties, discontinuity and reserves. Among these sites, only three were found to be suitable for crushed rock production.
